Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! 1s are taught by Mrs Sweet, along with the TAs Miss Jennings and Mrs Cozens. Over the Autumn Term, we will learn about mapping our local area and then about the geography of London, using Paddington Bear to help us! Once we have a good understanding of what London is like at present, we will move on to learning about the Great Fire of London after Half Term. In Science, we will learn about the weather and then about different materials. In Art and Design lessons, we will make natural sculptures, including making bread sculptures, and then look at representing different landscapes and cityscapes. In RE, the children will learn about Sources of Wisdom, Symbols and Actions and Beliefs and Practices. The two PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) topics for the autumn term are Being Me in My World and then Celebrating Difference. English lessons will focus on letter formation and building sentences. We will start by writing sentences about a short animation and then move on to describing some of the features of London. In Maths, we will focus heavily on developing understanding of number and place value.

We will update this page regularly with photos and other information so you can see what we have been up to!

Please see below for a weblink for the Hit the Button online game. The children can practise playing the 'Doubles' and 'Halves' games, using numbers to 10. This will help to develop their maths fluency.

There is also a weblink for the Underwater Counting game to help children who need to practise counting accurately. When they can count accurately by pointing to each object, they can use this to look at the group of objects and 'subitise', which is counting without actually pointing to each object.

We are learning about the weather at the moment. We practised being weather forecasters!
