Year 5 did some orienteering about rounding decimals. We followed a map to locate areas around our school. At each control point, pupils filled in the four numbers from the control marker. The activity sheets include a decimal point between the 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th numbers, so that pupils created a number with two decimal places. Using the numbers that they create; pupils then rounded up/down to the nearest whole number or to the nearest 1 decimal place.
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. During this lesson, we explored nets of different shapes using a mixture of building and drawing.
In year 5, we have been learning about equivalent fractions and how these can be used to order, compare, add and subtract fractions. We've also been converting between improper factions and mixed numbers.
We started the year by reading the book, 'How many jelly beans?'
Here's a photo of a group of us exploring the most exciting page - one million jelly beans! We used this book to explore number magnitude up to (and beyond) one million. We worked on reading and writing large numbers and counting up and down in powers of 10. How many jelly beans do you think you could eat?
