Church Events

St Mary's Flower Festival

Year 5 art club, led by Mrs Middleton, created a collaborative piece of artwork for the St Mary's Church flower festival. There theme was Mary, so we chose to base our display around an alternative name for Mary - 'Gate of Heaven'. The children decided to create paper flowers, using a range of techniques, to portray their visualisation of the gates of Heaven.

Environmental Awareness Week

In school, we held an Environmental Awareness Week in 2019 as part of our studies on 'Human Responsibility and Values'. Each year group chose an environmental issue to focus upon. Their work across the whole week was based on this - from writing in English to locational studies in geography. Each year group also produced a collaborative piece of artwork to display at church. We had some amazing pieces to display, including recycled t-shirt bags from Year 5 and heart-wrenching canvases from Year 6 showing destruction in the rainforest.

The children were also set challenges throughout the week. These included a 'waste free' packed lunch day, a whole-school litter picking event and a 'minimise waste in class' competition. Children also became 'Environmental Superheroes' over the Christmas holidays - seeing how many creative ways they could find to reduce, reuse and recycle their Christmas waste. Many children brought their amazing new creations into school to share!

Parents came to look at our work at the end of the week and also joined us at church for a super showcase event, complete with the choir performing and an amazing charity cake stall organised and run by Year 6.
