Year 1

What's coming up...

For the entire Summer term our topic will be 'Animals'. This topic ties in nicely with our current unit of Science work 'Animals including humans'. The children will be exploring animals from around the world, including the different animal groups and the structure of animals.

In Maths we will be continuing our Maths fluency as well as developing our problem solving strategies and skills. It would be greatly appreciated if, at home, you could continue to practise addition and subtraction facts to 20.

Attention!

To enhance the children's learning we will also be going on a trip to Paradise Wildlife Park on Tuesday 3rd July where the children can meet some of the animals they have learnt about! Please view the link to the trip letter for further details.

Super Science

In Science Year 1M have identified and classified useful materials to fix a broken umbrella. They had to discuss what an umbrella was used for and then they worked out what the best material would be to fix the umbrella by using water and a pipette. We spoke about the word ‘waterproof’ and why it is important to use waterproof materials when making an umbrella. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experiment!
