Maths

Each week we will upload a day by day break down of activities you can complete with your child along with any necessary resources for you to download. Children can complete the activities in their 'Working from Home' book. Resources do not need to be printed unless you wish. The different levels of difficulty are to support all learners so choose the level appropriate to your child's understanding. They do not always have to complete the same colour challenge every day.

 

Mental Fluency

Before completing their daily maths activity, it would be benefical for your child to complete a 5-a-day to support their mental fluency. The 5-a-day activities are designed to be 5/10 minute starters that revisit and revise previous strategies/concepts in a range of different contexts. We recommend bronze level for Year 3. Week 8 WB 01.6
This week the children will be working on 2D shape. As part of this weeks learning, the children will be exploring different types of shape and their properties, along with opportunities to develop their reasoning skills. The children had not yet covered this unit of work in Year 3 so we have included some teaching notes which are outlined on the breakdown of activities.

This week the children will be revisiting measures. As part of this weeks learning, the children will be exploring the different types of measure including length, weight and capacity, as well as converting measure and solving problems in this area of maths.

This week the children will be continuing their work on fractions. A quick reminder that children should be encouraged to draw their workings to demonstrate their understanding of how to find a fraction.

This week the children will be revisiting fractions. They will be recapping how to find fractions of both shapes and amounts, followed by some problem solving. Children should be encouraged to draw their workings to demonstrate their understanding of how to find a fraction. Some problems may involve more than one step so we ask that your child spends some time unpicking it, solving one step at a time in order to reach the final answer.

This week the children will be revisiting division. They will be encouraged to make links between multiplication and division as well as solve problems around sharing.

This week the children will be revisiting multiplication, with a focus on recall of multiplication facts to support their knowledge of problem solving in this area of maths.
